Scam Alert Southern Alberta Energy Expo

It’s important to inform people of a scam alert for the Southern Alberta Energy Expo show manager’s attention that previous exhibitors of the petroleum shows and chamber members may be the target of a foreign company known to scam exposition and trade show exhibitors with a ‘free listing’ in an online directory.

A company known as Fair Guide, operated by Construct Data Verlag AG, is already known to government bodies such as the the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center. Their fraudulent tactics include a direct mail campaign urging exhibitors to take advantage of a ‘free’ online listing in their publication. The fine print of the form included details a 1271 EUR charge per year and a binding three year agreement. This service is not solicited nor endorsed by the Medicine Hat & District Chamber of Commerce.

This post is to advise anyone that may be contacted to disregard any such letters and marketing materials. Additionally this issue is already being tackled on an international scale. This scam has been run in multiple trade shows across multiple industries like Wind Energy and Oil & Gas.

Be aware of who is contacting you and remember to do your due diligence when looking at advertising with companies. If you do a quick search on this company you quickly get an idea that they are not legitimate and should be ignored.
